2017 has been an interesting year as we have seen the aftermath of what happened in 2016.
In the UK we’re learning that when it comes to Brexit, we can’t organise a piss-up in a brewery; with both sides of the argument showing discontent for some of the decisions that are being made…which hasn’t been many.
While in the US, their ‘leader’ is, erm, doing what he does best…throwing his toys out of his pram!!!
Personally, for me, 2017 has been a relatively good year. Although there have been periods where I have struggled a lot. At the moment this isn’t something that I want to talk about, but I feel like it didn’t help me achieve some of my 2017 goals.
Goal 1 – Healthy eating
The plan for 2017 was to improve my healthy eating.
2016 already saw me eating healthier, and while I improved on my home cooking, I haven’t really done much else. I’ve because a dab hand at throwing chicking and veg into a pan and hoping for the best.
When I’ve been buying products, I’ve been looking mainly at the amount saturated fats it has. This has worked me. Along with healthier eating and exercise, I’ve see a positive change in my body.
Goal 2 – Sleep better
The plan for this goal was to improve the number of hours that I was sleeping. At the beginning of 2017, I was getting between 3-5 hours a night, and I wanted to increase this to around 6-7 hours.
While my average sleeping time did improve, although it was around 5-6 hours, which I am happy about. I just need to make this a more consistent sleeping pattern.
Goal 3 – Professional improvement
This goal had three parts to it, with the majority not going to plan.
The first was to increase my confidence as a developer, which I believe I have.
Due to a change in circumstances at work, this put me in a position I didn’t want to be in…just yet. However, a few months on and I believe that this was the best thing to happen to me and I am now striving where I am. And I like it!
The other two parts were in relation to my professional portfolio site; this is offline at the moment, so I have totally failed in relation to them.
Goal 4 – Dental hygiene
While I brush my teeth twice daily (sometimes more), the plan was to improve my dental hygiene routine. I did at the beginning of the year, however, as time passed I fell back into my old routine.
Although, my last dentist appointment was positive. No additional work was required and I didn’t have to see them for another 12 months instead of 6. So something was working.
I need to get myself back into the routine of flossing and mouthwash on a daily basis instead of intermittently. I’ve got a dentist appointment due soon, so it’ll be interesting to see what the damage is.
Goal 5 – Buy the flat
So for 2017, the plan was to buy the flat before I turned 40. Well, this didn’t happen!
Situations changed, in a good way, which meant we delayed the purchasing process until after my birthday.
Currently we are in the early stages, of a frustrating process, but hopefully, in a few months, we will own the flat.
Goal 6 – Improve variety of blogs
The plan for 2017 was to increase the number of blogs I do by 5-6. I did 2!!!
I started off with good intentions but life got in the way. In fact for the latter part of the year, I didn’t blog for months on end, which meant I was playing catch up a lot!
For 2018, I definitely want to improve my blogging. I have had many ideas/opinions but decide against sharing them at the last minute. Eurgh!!!
