So as we approach February, and I still hadn’t worked out what my goals were for 2018…until now. Which is no big deal, because unlike resolutions (in my opinion), goals are something that you can work on throughout the year, and not break within the first few weeks!
In all honesty, I nearly decided that I wasn’t going to set any goals this year, especially after a lacklustre 2017 goal achievement. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to achieve throughout the year, or even if I had the energy to do it. However, I changed my mind as I feel that it is important to give yourself something to work on through the year, to give yourself a target and a sense of achievement.
So for 2018, here are the goals that I have set myself:
Goal 1 – Crossfit
Last year was a struggle when it came to the gym. The gym that I was at was too busy, and it was getting difficult to get on any of the equipment. So, my mojo got up and left, and so did I. I quit the gym!
I noticed that there was a new bigger gym opening, so I decided to take a month off and see how I got on there. However, the opening of the gym was delayed for another month. So, I needed to find something else to do for a month, while waiting for it to open.
I joined Crossfit with the intention of doing it for a month and then carrying on at the new gym once it opened. However, I was enjoying it too much, I decided to cancel the new gym membership and carry on with Crossfit.
For 2018, I want to do two things in relation to Crossfit:
Improve my technique, which will in return improve my strength
Challenge myself more. Instead of going for the scaled option, go for a difficult alternative until I have increased to the RX version.
Goal 2 – Declutter the flat
I have lived in my flat for over 15 years, and it is fair to say that during that time, the husby and I have collected a lot of crap over the years.
As we are in the process of purchasing the flat, it seems like it is the right time to go through the place and give it a good old clearout.
This will be hard, as I’m a little bit of a hoarder. I mean, the manual for the washing machine that we no longer have is still useful, right?
Goal 3 – Professional development
So for the last couple of years, I’ve had some sort of goal in relation to my career. So, for 2018, I did contemplate giving myself a year off. But, I changed my mind because I feel that it is important that I continue with the growth.
As mentioned, when reviewing 2017 goals, a change in circumstances meant that I was placed in a position that I didn’t want to be in…just yet. However, come the end of the year, this change really helped with my confidence immensely, and this has been noticed at work.
For this year, I will take a front-end lead on a project for the first time. Additionally, I’m looking to eventually progress to a senior role. On top of that, there is the standard improvement in relation to my technical knowledge, especially as there is a lot to learn throughout the year.
Goal 4 – Personal development
If I have professional development as a goal this year, then it is only right that I have some sort of personal growth goal too…again!
As much as I’ve had some highs in 2017, I have also had a few lows. Whether this is a mistake that I’ve made or by a toxic ‘friendship’ that I’ve had.
So this year, I want to:
Think about myself more. I shouldn’t be worried about saying ‘no’ to people.
Ignore those out there who gossip/spread lies about you. Those that care about you know the truth.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Mental health is not something to be ashamed off, so stop trying to hide it.
Goal 5 – Sort out the websites
So last year, I wanted to work on both my personal and professional websites, but that didn’t really go to plan.
This year, the main priority for me is moving my sites from the current hosting company to a new one. For over a year, the reliability of my current hosting provider has been poor, to say the least. Granted, it has improved slightly recently, but the damage has already been done.
Additionally, my data was stolen by an ex-colleague of theirs, which resulted in attempts of hacking my sites and spam mail, being received and sent from my account, went through the roof. And they didn’t have the audacity to apologise for the problems experienced!
On top of that, I noticed that the amount I was paying was a lot higher than new customers. When I queried this, they offered me a cheaper price, but it was still 20% more than new customers.
Goal 6 – Use my laptop
So several months back I bought myself a laptop to replace my computer which is coming to the end of its life. Since buying it, I’ve hardly used it. Partly because I’ve not transferred my content yet, but also because it was a nightmare to set up that it put me off using it.
So, this year, I need to sort out the old computer and save everything that I want to keep. And then set up my office to that the laptop is my main computer and is used instead of becoming the most expensive dust collector that I own!!!
