2021 Goals

Entering 2021 was different to previous years, but here we are. And as much as it appears that this year is still going to be a shit show, I have faith that it’ll improve.

Additionally, I think another thing that may have have improved for 2021 is my approach to it.

I’m approaching this year with the hope of being more in control and organised. I’ve even bought myself a legend planner, and I intend to make use of it throughout the whole year. Not only do I think this will help with my organisation, I hope it will help me achieve my goals for the year.

New Year Resolution vs Goals

This time of the year, people either set resolutions or goals. For someone who has been setting goals for about 18 years, I have noticed that goal setting is becoming more popular as the years go on.

I think that may be due to the negative connotation that resolutions have. They’re just made to broken. Goals, on the other hand, are things that can be worked on throughout the year.

For 2021, using my planner, I have create several small goals to work on throughout the year, but I have created some main goals that I want to achieve by the end of the year. Which are:

Goal 1: Get fit again

2020 was definitely not kind to me when it came to fitness and my weight.

With lockdown, I hardly exercised, and that is something I’m pissed off with myself about. I’ve gained over 10kg! And my body and mind are not happy about it!

I have spoken out before about my weight issues, so this is the main goal that I will achieve in 2021. I don’t feel confident in myself

To clarify, I am not bothered about losing weight. I’m happy to convert the fat to muscle. My goal is to drastically change my body fat percentage.

On the 1st January, I stepped on the scales, to see what I have to work with:

Plans to achieve this goal

As much as I want to get back to Box Fitness, firstly we are still in a lockdown and secondly, I quite self-conscious about myself.

However, when normality has resumed, and classes are back to normal(ish), I will bite the bullet and return. I do really enjoy the sessions…most of the time!

Until then, I am going to try and exercise at home. I’ve been walking every day, which I haven’t been doing since working from home.

I may also try and get a few runs in. I’ve also ordered some weights so I can gain strength while at home.

I don’t believe in diets, as such. However, I will look at what I eat, and cutting back on the ‘bad’ foods, to help with the body fat reduction.

I plan to check my body measurements fortnightly, and take progress photos monthly, just to see if there is any changes in the body shape. These aren’t necessary for public viewing. Just me.

Goal 2: Reduce procrastination

I have always been a procrastinator, so everything takes longer than expected. I want to look at ways to resolve this.

I feel that this isn’t just about me getting side-tracked, or my mind doing a ‘squirrel’ moment. And I have a lot of squirrel moments, that’s for sure.

It’s also down to my mental health. If you are not feeling 100%, then you’re just not in the mood to do anything.

I want to use the planner, that I mentioned earlier, to help the most here, by creating a controlled environment for me to get stuff done.

This is something that I’ve been trailing out, at the end of the year. I had a weekly chart to help and manage what needed to be done. So, I felt that it has prepped me for 2021.

The planner has more involvement, but I think that it will be worth it in the long run.

I shall also, look if there are some material to help reduce procrastination, and try them out.

Goal 3: Sort out the loft

This was originally a house project that we wanted to do last year, but instead, we decided to do the decking.

When we moved into the house, we basically threw everything into the loft, but it just doesn’t have the right support/flooring.

I want to be able to use the space, as properly storage space. And organised. I don’t want it to be a Monica Geller cupboard.

Plans to achieve this goal

So for 2021, we want to replace the hatch and add a ladder and get it all floored, so it is useable space.

Once complete, we need to go through all the crap that is up there and get rid of the crap that is no longer needed. Even if we just get it organised, so all the related stuff is together and has their own space.

Goal 4: Website rebrand

I have had a personal website for about 20 years. After getting married, my old website address became obsolete. So Life of Mike was born!

This rebranding happened over 6 years ago, and I have had the same look and feel ever since. And now it feels like it’s time to give the site a little overhaul.

Ideally, this is something that I would like to do myself, because you know, that’s my job. But, I don’t have time, so I need to use existing templates that is out there.

Problem is, I have no idea what I want the site to look like. Or how I want the new logo to appear.

The first thing that I will need to do, is get an idea what my new site will look like. So it is going to require a lot of research, to see what is available out there.

Once I have found a few templates that I like, then I will need to look at how editable it is. While I don’t have time to create a whole website, I would still like to add some of my own flair.

Once I have a look and feel, the logo and implementation would be the next steps.

Updating themes in WordPress are relatively easy, but there may be some gotcha’s I need to look out for.

Additionally, I want to learn more about ‘Headless WordPress‘. And use this to set up a professional website/blog, which is something that I have wanted to do for a few years. We shall see!
