When I turned 25, I went through a quarter-life crisis, feeling like I had done nothing with my life. As my fifty years on the planet are fast approaching, I feel like I have done and experienced a lot, but is that enough?
So as I approach the fifty marker, I wanted to create a bucket list of stuff I would like to do/achieve before I reach there. So I decided on the “Fifty before 50” bucket list.
The only issue is, that I am struggling to think of fifty things that I want to achieve/do. Have I really got no ambition? Or have a I done more than I expected?
I have to be realistic too. Unless I win the lottery, or get a sugar daddy, there is a lot of stuff that I just wouldn’t be able to achieve before my 50th!
This list is something that I have been working on for over a year, and I am struggling, so to prevent any delay I am going to show what I have planned and hope that I can think of others that I can achieve over the next 4 years (and 2 months).
Also if anyone has any ideas of other stuff that I could try, then let me know.
Learn Spanish
I have haphazardly been trying to learn Spanish over the years. It would be good to have a little conversation in another language
I am currently learning Spanish through Duolingo
Raise £5k for charity
I used to raise money all the time, but there is only so much sponsorship shit you can do.
Over the next few years I plan to raise some money for charity
Ride a horse
The closest I have got to riding a horse is a donkey on Blackpool beach when I was about 10/11.
Visit Northern Ireland
It’s the only country I haven’t visited in the United Kingdom. This has to change.
Complete the North Coast 500
Scotland’s version of Route 66. It has to be done.
Ski
I don’t know why I have never attempted to ski before.
I don’t necessarily want to go on a skiing holiday. Just give it a try
Take a pottery class
As lovers of the Great Pottery Throwdown, watching them do that makes it look so easy.
So why not?
Act on stage
One of the biggest regrets of my life.
This is what I wanted to do as a career when I was younger. But alas, it never got passed college years!
I would love to perform again. But do I still have it in me?
Do a Skydive
I’ve done a bungee jump, this is kinda the same. Except a lot higher…and a parachute instead of a rope!
So nothing like the same!
Abseil
There is something about dangling off the side of something, supported by a piece of rope, to give you the heebie jeebies!
Finish sleeve tattoo
I have been working on my sleeve since I was about 20. I may as well get it finished before I turn fifty!
Visit Canada
I would rather visit Canada over America.
Plus we both have family in Canada, so we would like to go and see them there.
Play a game of tennis
In the whole time that I went to school, I got to have a go at tennis once.
I then “played” a couple of times later with friends, but I feel like I need to have a proper game.
Reverse advent
What’s this? A Xmas themed item!
This isn’t something I came up with, but is something that I have thought about doing.
Go on a cruise
I’ve always fancied going on a cruise, alas the husby doesn’t.
Where is that sugar daddy?
Hot air balloon
I’m told I’m full of air a lot, but not enough to lift me to the sky.
Professional website
For a few years now, I have been wanting to create a professional website using the Headless approach. It has never happened!
Rock climb
It’s a sport that I have never really thought about because I don’t have good grip strength.
I would be happy with indoor rock climbing
Scottish Hogmanay
As a Scot who moved to England as a kid, I have never experienced a proper Scottish Hogmanay.
Go up the Eiffel Tower
15 year old Mike had the opportunity to climb the tower. 15 year old Mike declined.
Older Mike now regrets that decision.
Visit R.O.I
The British Isles have many beautiful places to visit, and some of them are in Ireland
Visit the Neighbours set
Uncle Gert refused to take me in 1999. Not that I hold grudges or anything, but I haven’t forgiven Uncle Gert for that!
But this is something that I still want to do.
Visit Amsterdam
Who doesn’t want to spend a weekend in Amsterdam and visit the sex museum and look at a wall of cocks?
Create an item of clothing
I’ll be honest, I haven’t touched a sewing machine since high school. So this should be fun!
Sing publicly
I have a huge phobia of signing in public.
At the age of 12, in front of a packed out school assembly I forgot the words to Oliver’s “Who will buy?”
Plus, I am constantly told I can’t sing!
Upcycle a piece of furniture
Having spent years visiting the Gay Mecca (aka IKEA), it’s time to try something different.
Let’s try some upcycling!
Backflip
When I was 11, school said that I couldn’t do gymnastics as “that’s a girls sport”
In the process, I have never been able to back flip.
Try a hair piece
I’ve been bald since my 20s, so I have always been curious to see what I would look like if I had a head of hair!
Achieve a muscle up
In CrossFit, we like to set personal goals on what we would like to achieve.
A muscle up would be mine!
Swim with dolphins
This has been a childhood dream of mine.
Helicopter ride
Ideally somewhere scenic and not over Manchester’s sewage treatment area.
Get a makeover
I’ll be honest, my dress sense is casual so I blend into the back.
Am I too old to stand out?
Visit Cornwall
I need to have some Cornish ice cream on the beach
Create a piece of art
I really am not an artistic person, but I have always wanted to create a piece of art (of some sort).
Just don’t expect a masterpiece
Design & Build a piece of furniture
Upcycling a piece of furniture is one thing, but can I create one
Botox
I like to think I have aged gracefully (or disgracefully depending on who you speak to), but age is upon me now, and I am looking a little haggard.
So , I want to see what a little pick-me-up would do/feel
