Today is all about…July 2024

July has come and gone, much like my sanity!

Anygays, I had a lovely month. I hope you did too!

Talking Points

Spain

After several months of stress at work, it is fair to say that I needed, and earned, this holiday.

For just over two weeks, I was in Spain. Enjoying the sun, the locations and just having a good old relaxing time.

Benidorm

We started in Beniform for a long weekend. This was to be our party period.

Although, I wouldn’t say it was a ‘party’. It was more of a lively get-together.

Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time, but it wasn’t like the gays were out to play.

The venues were relatively quiet. The fact we were in a club for over an hour and no fucker else turned up, says something!

And while I still wasn’t drinking, I still had a great time!

Aqualandia

I may be a full-grown adult, but it doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy a waterpark.

We went on nearly every ride in the park, but I was the only fool who would go on the Verti-Go…twice!

At 33 metres Verti-Go is the highest slide in Europe and the tallest slide capsule in the world. What could possibly go wrong?

The first time it was okay. However, the second time I felt like my arse cheeks were being ripped off as I went down the slide.

I left the park with my butt smarting and within hours bruised, which would remain for the rest of the holiday.

Alcalalí

The remainder of the holiday was spent at our friend’s parents’ house. His sister and niece were also there.

Yes, the Australian niece whom we went to Alton Towers with, and had never heard of Neighbours!

I digress!

The two weeks were a fantastic blend of relaxation and enjoyment. The plan was to hire a car and visit a few local areas. We visited places like Moraira, Javea and Calpe.

I even joined the local gym, which along with the regular swims in the pool or sea, kept my fitness levels maintained.

Alcalalí is a quiet place. Sometimes it’s worth questioning whether anything was actually open.

Ses Feixes, an Ibiza-esque restaurant, and Lulah’s were good places to eat. On the other hand, you can give Bar Toni a wide birth unless you like your drink to be served with attitude!

Market Day

Every Saturday is market day at Xaló, so we decided to go along.

I don’t know what I expected from the market, but what I got was more of a car boot vibe.

A lot of the stalls were bric-n-brac, reclaimed items from old properties and some of art or hand-made items.

There was an African sculpter who was selling his art. While there, he was sculting away, and it was fascniating to watch. We bought one of his African masks, to add to the others on our wall.

We also got a small piece of art from another stall. I liked a lot of their work, but it was out of my price range for now. So this was a nice reminder of the holiday.

I was taken aback when I noticed one of the stalls selling Nazi memorbillia. I thought it was illegal to sell this type of stuff, but currently in Spain it’s still legal.

One of the day trips was to visit some waterfalls. This is a huge tourist trap for both tourists and locals.

I don’t know what I expected but I was a little underwhelmed by the actual waterfall.

While I acknowledged the falls as I cross the bridge, I thought it was a mini waterfall before arriving to the main one. So, I never really enjoyed the actual waterfall.

Regardless, I had a great time, as there was a load of other areas to enjoy. There was a lovely secluded area, which you entered at your own risk, a man made waterfall, which gave some great photo opportunities and an area where you can jump into the river.

It’s definitely worth a visit though.

Legends

There was a day in the holiday, which we planned to do something and it just doesn’t work out as expected.

A friends who lives out there got us tickets to a tribute act event in Javea, where we would see Ed Sheeran, Cher & Bruno Mars tribute acts perform.

To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going, but there was a large group of us, and we hadn’t seen this friend for a while that it would be a good way to spend the evening.

We planned the day out, and from the get go it went tits up!

The group was cut in half, as some decided that due to stuff that happened the night before, they wanted a quiet one.

I was also expecting a relaxing day around the pool before heading to Javea. However this was scuppered, by a sudden change of plan to go now instead of later. Which kind of pissed me off due to lack of communication and having to rush!

As we were now spending the day in Javea, it was agreed to walk from one end of Javea to the other. Again, this was about to be scuppered when we met our friend invited us to theirs for a drink before the event. Or even drive us to the other area.

I stood my ground, as I was pissed from all previous things changing, and said I was walking. The decision on whether everyone else walked or got a lift was up to them.

Yep, I pulled a tantrum!

Plus, we still needed to get a few gifts before going to the event.

We all agreed to meet at the friend at a certain point and time.

The time came, and they didn’t turn up. They were running late!

So we headed to the venue, thanks to Google Maps. It was heaving, which was always a good thing.

We found some empty seats in the corner…along with a flies infestation!

The friends was still no where to be seen!

The first act came on. While I am not an Ed Sheeran fan, I have to be honest the tribute act was good. I can’t fault him.

Granted, I am not sure that the police agreed. They stopped the music for about 20 mins before allowing the event to proceed.

Food

We were originally sold that food was included with the ticket. We found out it wasn’t after getting the tickets from our friend.

The food was €5 each. So I decided on a hotdog and a portion chips. A grand total of €10 for the food. I wasn’t giving €10 worth of food!

Granted the hotdog was alright. I can’t complain about that.

The chips, however, that’s a totally different story! The portion was non-existent!

A measly portion of chips
The missing friend

As for the friend, they confirmed that they were no longer coming as they had a shag around.

It’s fair to say that this pissed everyone off!

Especially taking into account, the evening was about spending time with them. Plus, they were going to help organise transport home. Truth is, they felt a shag was ore important than friends they hardly see.

Before the second act had come on stage, we left!

We needed to, as we had to get a lift home from our friend’s dad. It wouldn’t have be fair on him to come any later.

The event and evening was an absolute waste of moneyand time!

While that was a damp squid and not an ideal way to end the holiday, it was just a small blimp in what was an absolute blast of a time.

Thanks to all who made the holiday what it was!

While I was writing this little tit-bit, it ended up becoming war and peace and I decided it needed its own post.

Covid

It’s been reported that there is currently a Summer surge of Covid.

Obviously, the person who doesn’t go out that often would be the one who gets it! And this time it hit that little bit harder than previously.

The previous weekend, I was out for the husby’s birthday, and by Thursday I was starting to get the tickles of a chest infection.

By Friday, the chest infection was in full flow, and I was doing impressions of Barry White. Additionally, I also had a stomach bug and a muggy head!

Trust me, you don’t want to have a coughing fit when you have a stomach bug!

The first few days were the worst, as the heavy head was making it difficult to concentrate at work or do any day-to-day stuff!

But it’s the cough, and its consistent annoyance that really started to annoy me!

Apart from my daily walk, I didn’t leave the house. And I was starting to feel sorry for myself, and fed up!

Even after the negative Covid test, I was still feeling the ramifications of the chest infection for a few weeks!

Thankfully, now it’s all gone. Even my Barry White-esque voice!
