History was in the making in September, as a new chapter in UK history was being made.
While I was getting my eyebrows tinted (this will be a classic “Where were you when…?” for the future), news broke about the Queen being seriously ill and that the family were travelling to Balmoral to be with her.
We all knew what this meant. London Bridge was, or is about to fall.
A few hours later confirmation was received that Queen Elizabeth II had passed, with King Charles III now taking reign of the monarchy.
Royalist or Republican?
Britain is very much a Royalist nation, with 60% supporting the monarchy. The remaining split between a republic and not sure.
Only the Brits can take one of the nation’s favourite pastimes, queuing, and possibly create a new world record for the longest queue, just to see the Queen lying in state.
You have got to give kudos to the dedication that these people had, to join a 6.9-mile long queue which on average took 14 hours, to see the Queen’s coffin.
What’s my stance?
Honestly, I’m not sure where I stand in relation to the Royal Family. I really am conflicted.
There are pros and cons to the monarchy, and frankly, I am not interested in having discussions about it at the moment.
There are many other debates at the moment, such as our current government and trans rights, where my energy is needed more.
I have friends and family that sit on both sides of the fence, and I respect their opinions. It looks like I am getting splinters cause I’m sitting on that fence.
For me, I saw the Queen as stable. We went through a lot of shit throughout the years, and she was just there as our matriarchal granny.
The Royal Family is more about the institution than the actual family.
The business provides us with the information that they want us to know and tries to hide/cover up the info they don’t.
They are basically the OG of influencers. Painting a false picture to the world.
My separation of that and their elitism thinks they are not always a good role model.
No one is perfect!
Being one of the most famous families in the world (something the Kardashians strive to be), their lives and everything that they do is under a microscope.
And with the invention of social media, that microscope not only got strong but also into the hands of people with no experience in how to use it.
Like all families, there is always drama and scandals, just theirs is shared with the world.
There could be infidelity (and there’s been a lot in this family), bribes/bungs, drugs, racism and good old sexual assault allegations.
How the institution has handled these is controlled (as much as they can) and they will happily use a family member as a pawn to save the face of another.
It felt like that with Princess Diana & Fergie. Even more recently with Princess Catherine and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan.
There is a well-known rumour, that Prince William has followed in the infidelity footsteps of his family.
It’s reported that while the institution did everything to quash the rumours, they refused to do anything in relation to the rumours about Meghan. And if you look on the socials, it’s being alleged that stories of Meghan were given out to prevent Prince Willie’s seeing the press.
Can everything be forgiven?
Separate from this, I think this is a wider discussion to have about forgiveness, especially in a world where it’s all over the internet. But in summary, it depends on what it was.
If you apologise, reflect, and actively do things to change, then we should forgive.
If you don’t accept that something was wrong, then it’s still an issue.
However, it’s hard to forgive and forget something things, such as sexual assault!
And for some people, the Royal Family are the reason and turmoil they’ve experienced through the decades. Such as First Nations, so they can’t and won’t accept them, and that’s a valid response.
King Charles III
With the demise of the Queen, King Charles has had no time to grieve before being paraded in front of the work to start his official duties,
If I am honest, I’m not really a fan of the guy. However, my opinion is made on the calculated stories out there. But, I can see that he is ready to take on this role.
I’m fascinated by how everything will change, which will be weird, but kinda exciting. New money, stamps, passports etc.
Is this the end of the Royal Family?
Who knows! There was an opinion that Charles should step aside for Prince William, who is seen as a more popular Royal.
Some people think the Royal Family should have stopped after the Queen’s death.
The approach that King Charles will follow in the role will be different. So it will be interesting to see how that pans out.
Sandwich King
I have seen that King Charles III is being dubbed the Sandwich King. Taking into account his age (73) it’s felt that it won’t be long until Prince William takes over.
And as an Aussie comedian stated, he is a sandwich king because he’s inbred!
