I’ve still got a bit of catching up to do in relation to my ‘Today is all about’ blogs, so better carry on with April now.
For those that know me, I’ve been an avid Bad Taste Bears collector, but for a long time, I haven’t purchased a bear, for many reasons. This month, saw the release of a bear that I had to buy…Beary Poppins! I hope that we will see other bears released like that, so I will purchase them.
This month also saw me attend an event that I’ve never done before…Manchester Robber Weekend.
Over the last year, I’ve started to get into the rubber scene, and while I get that some people don’t understand, it is my prerogative.
So, this year we attend the MRW9 and had a great time. We already have some friends from the rubber scene, but we made a lot more that weekend.
There are three things that stood out that weekend. Good and bad.
Firstly, I won at the bingo (yes, there was bingo at the weekend), and won an amazing goody bag, include rubber and vouchers for rubber.
Secondly, it was nice to meet so many like-minded people from all over the world. I’m quite shy when meeting new people, so it was nice that people approached and chatted with me. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me.
Although, there were a few instances where I tried to talk to people, whom I know from the socials, where I was either pushed away (not physically) or ignored. Which may explain, why I’ve actually stepped away from the groups a little.
Finally, I witnessed some negativity that some people experienced for wearing rubber, especially if you don’t have the ideal body.
My issue wasn’t necessary because people were being attacked for wearing rubber, but people still think it is acceptable to body shame people. And, recently the body shaming isn’t always aimed at people who are a little large. I’ve witnessed it towards people who are below weight. Or even having a muscular build. We all prefer different types, I don’t get the need or desire to put people down because they don’t meet yours.
This is coming from someone who has been told several times ‘you’ve let yourself go’ and I am fully aware what the damage that comments like this can have. I find the comments unjustifiable.
The fact is, these comments are hidden under the pretence of a joke, ‘helpful’ feedback or just a plain and simple bitchy comment. However, the simple truth is, speaking like that about someone else is just you trying to make yourself feel better and to cover up your own insecurities!
