When it comes to December, it feels like you blink and it’s over.
It’s the year’s social month, and we all have a Christmas party or two. Then Christmas is thrust upon us. And before you know it, the bells are ringing as we bring in the new year.
Monthly Thought: December Birthdays
I’m sure I have written about this before, but it sucks having a December birthday. So if I have, I am going to write about it again!
I have always joked, that if I was born on my actual due date (25th) my mum would have called me JayCee.
Thankfully, I was nearly 2 weeks ear;y, so I’m given some time before people celebrate some fictional character!
However, there are two things that frustrate me about being popped out in December:
People are busy
December is Christmas party season, and everyone seems to be booked up. Even my Christmas party interrupts my birthday celebrations!
So when I am trying to organise a night out with everyone, it can be difficult.
I can’t be angry with my friends about it. That’s life, and we all have other things going on, but it’s frustrating.
Joint presents
This is something that my mum has tried to put a stop to quite early on.
The number of times I have heard “I’m not going yo get you a birthday present, instead I’m going to get you a bigger Christmas present!”
You honestly feel like you are being punished for having a birthday in December, and it’s such a hindrance for everyone.
The husby tried that once in front of my mum, and she went ballistic. “If you can’t buy him a birthday and a Christmas present, don’t buy him anything!”
But I got my revenge. Just before husby’s birthday, which is at the end of July, I said to him “I’ve decided that I am not going to get you a birthday pressie. Instead, I am going to get you a bigger Christmas pressie!”
So yeah, December birthdays are shite! It may be partly to blame for why I’m not a fan of Christmas itself.
This month’s talking points
Christmas Parties
Yeah, I did just complain about Christmas parties, but here I am in December attending three of my own.
I started off by going out for drinks with the group from the gym, which I vaguely remember. What I can remember is, it was a good one.
I then had the work’s Christmas party, where I made an embarrassment of myself. I drank way too much and I can’t remember leaving or getting home!
There is Ring cam evidence of me falling over which the husby had great pleasure showing everyone!
And to the annoyance to all, I didn’t have a hangover the next day!
The final Christmas party was with the Gay City Bowlers, which was basically a camptastic kinda night!
However, this time, it was the husby’s turn to have drunk too much and end up having a conversation with the toilet. And yes, I got it all on video and shared it with friends.
Revenger is sweet!
Mikemas
A year or so ago, a friend penned the term “Mikemas” to celebrate my birthday period, which is normally about a week.
At the World AIDs day event at Eagle, I won a Christmas meal for 4 at Via for 4 people. So we used that as my official start of Mikemas birthday week. The food, as always, was delicious and I was definitely stuffed after it!
Subsequently, we went to Eagle’s Sunday Service, where I won £100 on their Blanety Blank quiz! Which was the icing on the cake!
My actual birthday was spent at work, but the husby made a lovely meal to celebrate!
The rest of Mikemas was taken over by Christmas parties, but I would like to believe they were joint celebrations for my birthday too.
Saturday was my actual birthday night out. As I have said previously, I understand that a load of people couldn’t come out to party for one reason or another, but thanks to those that did.
Again, I can’t remember getting home, which is a sign of a good night, yeah?
The Traitors
If you haven’t heard about The Traitors, then your head is further in the ground than my own was.
Word of mouth appears to have done wonders for this show.
After the recent spat of abysmal reality competitions, that follow that same old format of spurning out fame-hungry reality ‘shitfluencers’, I decided to ignore this. But then everyone was praising it.
So I told the husby that I wanted to watch it, but like me, he wasn’t interested.
“Let’s watch the first one together and if you don’t like it, then I will carry on watching alone.”
After the first episode, we were both hooked. Thankfully, we had banked up a few episodes to watch.
There were a few things that I liked about the show.
Firstly, the cast. It was such a great, diverse and eclectic group.
And while I didn’t want the traitors to win, I have to admit I didn’t despise them. They played the game well!
A special call-out has to go to Aaron. Well, more specifically his ass! His trousers win the award for the best-supporting cast!
Secondly, the challenges. As the game progressed the challenges became more challenging. I would have loved to have done them, especially the last one!
Finally the psychology of playing the game. It reminded me of when Big Brother was first shown.
The paranoia that was caused, the traitors playing the faithful off each other. Even the burden the traitors were going through.
I can’t wait for the next series, and to see what it brings.
