Today is all about…June 2018

June started with us away on our holidays. We were on a family holiday to Kalamaki in Zante, Greece.

The first part of the holiday was spent entertaining the nephews, while the latter was the chillaxing bit. By the end of the holiday, I was super chilled and ready to get back to normality. Obviously, as soon as I started back at work this had all gone by mid-week.

For those that know me, when I go on holiday I end up getting burnt within the first few days and then spend the rest of the holiday shadow-hopping. However, this holiday I didn’t burn…and I sunbathed a lot!

During May, I started to prep myself by going on the sunbeds a couple of times a week. Which I feel really helped get me ready.

During the holiday I did my usual 3-song-turn sunbathing session. For those that don’t know what this is, I listen to 3 songs, then turn 90° and so on. The plan is that, if I got burnt, then it would be all over.

There was a nu7mber of occasions where I thought I got too much sun and thought by the evening that I would be lobster pink. But, this was a red herring, as I was I didn’t burn throughout the holiday. In fact, I hardly peeled as well. WTF is that all about? Not that I’m complaining, just shocked!

Now, when you go on holiday, the chances are you will bring a magnet back as a token reminder of your holiday. We can do one better, we adopted a cat!

During the first couple of days, we came across these two little adorable kittens. Then one day, I was able to pick one up and he gave me that look and my heart melted. I always believe that you don’t choose your pet, they chose you. And it felt like we’d been chosen.

We started talking about adopting both kittens and got into a conversation with Zante Strays to start the ball rolling.

We had already chosen their names Kala & Maki (geddit?). Our first attempt at catching them, went, well, hit and miss!!!

We caught the one that I had heald previously, but as soon as we put him in the box to take him to the vets, he became like the Tasmanian Devil. We gave up trying to catch the other, jumped into the taxi and arrived at the vet’s before he shredded the box and our hands.

For several days, we tried to capture the second kitten, but he wasn’t having it. We weren’t destined to have him. He didn’t choose us. While upset, I was also relieved as I don’t think I could cope with 5 cats.

For the next few weeks, Maki (which is the one we caught) would get everything needed before be could travel to the UK, microchipped, injections and his passport.

There was a slight sting in the tail when the cost of adopting increased as thy husby misread the total amount to be paid by us, but we’d fallen in love with him, so there was no going back.

A few ‘long’ weeks past and then the husby and I were sat in the car park in a service station, waiting for the arrival of the latest addition to the family. Nothing about this transition, in the middle of the night, looked suspicious at all!!!

However, the wee guy was itching to get out of his cage (I don’t blame him) and play. He still had that boisterous/kitten characteristics that we fell in love with.

Within a few days, he was settled and terrorising the rest of the cats.

Zante Strays are a charity and are always looking for donations so if you can help, feel free.
