I don’t know about you, but June has been a funny old month, hasn’t it?
It appears that the world’s recent activities want us to go back to the future.
Kate Bush was finally #1 with “Running up the hill”, and we had Topgun sequel #1 in the movie charts.
America had decided that women have no right to their bodies, with the overturning of Roe v Wade, and now plans are in place to remove more rights.
So yeah, isn’t it great to go back to the past?
Here’s the thing: my opinion on abortions is mine! Women should have the ability to make decisions about their bodies, especially in circumstances such as rape or for medical reasons.
It should not be deemed acceptable to tell a raped 10-year-old that they can’t have an abortion. And for right-wing religious terrorists then try to gaslight it as a false story, even after the vile rapist was arrested!
Additionally, they are now wanting to look at other laws that can be overturned such as same-sex marriages and contraception.
Nothing is safe, and people have the right to be frightened!
The UK won’t be affected
‘But it is all in the UK, nothing to worry about in the UK!’
Wrong. Wrong. Fucking wrong!
To think that the shit that is happening in the US won’t happen here is delusional.
The discussion about abortion is an ongoing topic in the UK, to the fact that human centipede impersonator, Nadine Dorries discussed reducing the legal abortion period by a month.
Or what about the removal of commitments to abortions and sexual health for women from the FCDO global pact, which the UK has signed?
Let’s not forget that the government are replacing the Human Rights Act is being replaced Bill of Rights, which is seen as being really detrimental to the UK people.
As for LGBT+ rights, these aren’t safe either. Fucktard Rishi wants to tackle the ‘woke’, which includes removing rights for trans people and stripping the Equality Act and creating a new section 28.
So wake up, look around and realise that our cesspit of society is just as bad as the US!
The monthly thought: Power of words
Originally, the monthly thought for June was going to be a little piece about the power of words, but I realised that I had too much to say so gave it its own post.
The irony is not lost!
This month’s talking points
Social Butterflies
I think it is safe to say that we’re definitely out of lockdown.
For the last couple of months, it feels like we haven’t had time to ourselves. Any time we did have to ourselves it was swallowed up on stuff like building a shed!
But June saw a social calendar that was brimming. We had a BBQ, a housewarming, two birthday parties, a weekend away, a pride event and an evening of ten-pin bowling.
We decided that we would take a month off from ChippyTuesday™, but I was still doing my Crossfit and had a bit of self-care from King Street Grooming.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. I’ve had a great June. I just think I need a holiday where I do nothing!
Talacre Beach
June saw the husby and I go for a caravan weekend break to Talacre Beach with two of our besties and their pooch.
I had a great weekend. We will omit the first night from memory. Why?
I experienced the worst chippy that I have ever been to. They class a chicken burger slapped on a plain unbuttered muffin as acceptable (it wasn’t). And their chips tasted like they were done 3 days ago and were just reheated.
We also experienced two of the local pubs, that were just missing something, people and atmosphere!
Saturday, on the other hand, was chock-full of activities.
The day started off with a walk along the beach. Obviously, we were loving the scenic views and not those of the daddies.
Aber Falls
If you know us and our lockdown ChippyTuesday™ quizzes, you will know Aber Falls was our go-to drink. So it was great to get ourselves to the distillery.
So we went along and had a gander. We didn’t do the tour, but I would like to do that another day.
We did however get to taste their new Violet liqueur. If you like Parma Violets, you will love this drink.
We stocked up on a few bottles, including our favourite Salted Toffee liqueur. And left with our pockets a lot lighter!
Zip World
The main reason for the weekend was one of our friend’s birthday treat. They had booked themselves onto Zip World, and we were there for support (and to look after the dog).
However, when I got there, I got a severe case of FOMO, so I booked myself in as well. My mate’s timeslot was booked up, so I went on a later one…on my own!
There are two zip wires, but it was the small one where I got a little nervous because I didn’t know what to expect. Although, it soon passed and I enjoyed the experience.
The one thing I regret is that I didn’t bring my phone with me. The views of the quarry were beautiful, but there were far better at the top. Gutted I made the decision to leave my phone with the husby.
I didn’t have time to think about the whole zip wire experience, because as soon as I entered the room, I was pushed to the front. As I was on my own, the next group needed 1 person to fill the space, so as I was on my own I jumped the time slot to go next!
I absolutely loved the whole experience, and if this is something that you like to do, then do Zip World.
Pink Picnic
Salford Pride had the weather this month. Granted there was 5 minutes where it pissed it down, but as I was under shelter getting a drink I missed getting wet!
What I loved about Pink Picnic, is that is was a group of friends catching up and just having a great time.
The event didn’t feel contrived, and as I’ve said before, it has a more community feel to it compared to some of the larger pride events.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Pink Picnic. It was better than last year, and I hope that it will continue to be better next year.
