March brings us a ¼ of the way through the year, How the heck did that happen?
It’s also a time of the year that if you are still doing your fitness regime, you feel a bit of a plateau. And I was one of those people.
While I appear to be going the right way, and I was feeling more positive in my skin, this just wasn’t being shown on the scales.
After weighing myself, I was seeing no change. The weight, body fat and muscle percentage just weren’t budging!
So clearly my scales were broken!
I decided to upgrade my scales to an 8-point measuring scales. I know, fancy right?
The results? The new scales confirmed that the old ones were in fact not broken! Instead, the new scales provided the same results but in a sassier way. Not only did it provide the same info as before, but now telling me my body age is older than I am! Among other things.
However, in all honesty, after my initial reaction to throwing the scales out of the window, I actually really like the additional breakdown the scales are providing. And I am seeing improvements, finally.
The monthly thought: WFH
March saw me return to the office for the first time in two years.
I knew a few of my colleagues that I know were going to be in the office, so I thought I would pop in and surprise them. It was quite nice getting a morning walk in as well.
And while it was nice to catch up with some colleagues that I don’t closely work with, I’m still not sold on returning to the office on a regular basis. I am enjoying the WFH environment.
So my monthly thought was looking at WFH, how it has changed society’s way of working, and the benefits that it can provide.
This month’s talking points
Princess Tiana anniversary
Can you believe that March saw Tia’s one year anniversary of joining the family?
Who would’ve known that bringing Tia into the household would dramatically change the house dynamics?
Prior to her arrival, Maki used to terrorise Squeebs as he wanted to play all the time. However, all Squeebs wanted to do was chill.
So when agreeing, technically suggesting, that we’d get another cat there were two ways that this could turn out. Firstly, Maki had a new playmate leaving Squeebs just to be an old cat. Or we’ve just created cat war at home.
Thankfully, I think, it was the former. Tia and Maki get on like a house on fire. They’re playing always leaves a wave of destruction wherever they’ve been.
The best surprise we got was how Squeebs reacted to a new cat in the house. Having the third cat were hoping that this would give Squeebs the respite that she deserves. In fact, it appears that she’s found some inner kitten in her.
Squeebs now has a little kick in her step. If she’s not playing with Tia, then she can be found playing on her own or just chilling.
The latter is still her favourite, and she still isn’t a fan of Maki, but she does appear to be a fan of Tia.
So yeah, we may have brought a 3rd cat into the home, but this has made it easier for all.
Covid
It had to happen eventually, didn’t it? After dodging the ‘Rona for two years, it caught up with me this March!
Four of us got it, two bad while the other two had it mild. I’d say that I was affected the least out of us.
Fact is, I didn’t have any of the symptoms. I did have a mucus chest infection, and when I did an LFT test it came back negative. So I carried on as normal.
I continued going to the gym and even visited the office for the first time. So typical that it turned out that the LFT provided a false negative!
One of the friends did a Covid test and it came back positive, so we took another LFT test, and there was a faint line. I was testing positive for covid. Which was confirmed by the PCR test that we did straight after.
This was Wednesday, but the weekend I had received two negative results and was able to return to normality.
I was lucky that I didn’t get it bad, and I place some of that on the fact that I was up-to-date with my jabs.
I’m also aware that some people haven’t been, with a few people I know experiencing long covid.
New car
Getting a new car has been discussed a few times at home for a while now. The plan was to change cars in a few years, however, with the rise in fuel costs and the car parts being astronomical, this appears to have been brought forward.
As part of the discussions for a while was replacing the current with either a hybrid or full-electric car. After some initial research, we’ve decided to go the full EV route.
Getting a new EV has higher costs, which can seem a little off-putting. There aren’t many 2nd hand ones out there. Although taking into account road tax, fuel prices et al, it’s not that much more expensive than buying a new petrol car.
When we went for the test drive, it was predictably cringey as you’d expect having to listen to the sales guy try and sell snow to an Eskimo. It definitely kept me entertained throughout.
We’re test driving an electric car, and the sales guy has got his spiel on go already.
“We’ve already reached our target for the month, so we can do a good deal”
“It’s my birthday tomorrow so I’m feel generous”
“I’ve got a promotion on the Corsa so you will get a great deal”
“You may think the Mocha is out of your price range, but I guarantee it’s not”
Mentioned the trailer for the husby’s work, and he’s said that the next model up is what he needs ????
There’s a break from sales spiel as they talk about their hometown that is Stockport
Taking an extra years warranty has now been mentioned
Side note: the drive is nice and smooth. It’s entertaining watching the husby try and change gears on an automatic
It’s figure crunching time. This is where all the add-ons are added and I go no, and then they’re removed.
“Don’t be honest to a industry that isn’t honest” ????
The husby is pimping his business out to the sales guy. Well the sales guy found out he was a gardener and wants him to fix his garden.
Here we go… Two quotes.
The original the husby had, and the one with the extras.
I blankly said nope.
Removed one extra as it was too expensive, and get cheaper elsewhere.
Got the 2nd reduced to by 66%
The price is now acceptable. And we’ve bought a new car
Still trying to add stuff on ????
Now they’re talking cycling. I just want to get to mums for a drink
That’s it. Paperwork signed. And we are out.
It’s gonna take up to 3 months for delivery ????
But we’ve got the Corsa-e in ‘power orange’
Transcript from a number of tweets I sent on March 26 2022
After a while of me refusing the add-ons, we finally agreed on purchasing the Vauxhall Corsa e in power orange.
Now it is just a waiting game as the car is built and ready for us to pick up, which is scheduled for June.
I am quite anxious about driving it, as I’ve never driven an automatic before. Although there is one thing that the husby won’t be able to do when it arrives, complain about me changing gears!
