Today is all about…May 2022

Summary:

A daily photo project turned diary, “Today is all about…” has grown over the years. What does May 2022 tell you about me?

Yes, I know it is coming to the end of July, but I am trying to play catch up with all the posts. So while in the heatwave, I am finally getting May out of the way.

However, we can’t let the May post poss without mentioning the court cases that have taken social media by storm.

The monthly thought: Celebrity Court

Depp v Heard

Who would have thought a court case about domestic abuse could be trivialised as it has been in the media? All for entertainment, and less about the subject matter!

While it was interesting to see how the media/social media told the story, society also made up which side of the fight they were on.

Where Depp fans supporting him because of a dislike for Heard?

Or were Heard supporters on her side because only men can be abusers? Trust me, there are people who think that!

The fact is, the relationship was toxic, and both are guilty of hitting each other. Yet after what I saw from the trial, I feel that Depp was more the victim than Heard.

I really struggled to believe Heard. Her accounts felt fabricated and untrustworthy. My opinion is nothing, it was the jury who she needed to get on her side. And failed!

It has raised a valid issue, that I think people need to stop and accept that this is an issue. Men can be the victims of domestic abuse. Granted, women are more likely to be the victims, yet 1 in 6-7 men will be a victim of domestic abuse.

Yet women (and men) will shut any man down and not believe them because men are the “stronger” ones, so it can’t be true! Say that to Mohammed Muktar who was abused and killed by his girlfriend.

In the light of #MeToo, which Amber Heard played off, we need to believe men too when it comes to things like these!

Wagatha

On the other side of the pond, the UK had their own ‘celebrity’ trial.

It’s the Primark version, that has gripped the UK for years after Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of selling stories of her to the press.

It has been the most farcical case I’ve ever seen. Vardy was suing Rooney for damage done to her reputation. If anything the court case ended up damaging her reputation more when all the other stuff she has said and done came out!

The outcome of the trial has still not been made yet, but I would be surprised if Rooney doesn’t come out on top of this. Even if Vardy did win, her reputation is shattered after this trial.

This month’s talking points

Singing in the Rain

After the previous month’s trip to see Beauty and the Beast, the theatre bug has bitten us well and truly.

I was aware that one of my favourite musicals was on at the theatre, but again I couldn’t afford to go.

Then I got an email with an offer on the tickets, and I snapped them up. After watching the movie so many times that I’ve lost count, I was so happy to finally see ‘Singing in the Rain’ in the theatre.

And I absolutely loved it. The production definitely did just to the film.

What I also loved, is catching the occasional glimpse of other audience members who were thoroughly enjoying themselves, oblivious that there was anyone else there with them.

Eurovision

Last year, for Eurovision, it was a small affair compared to other events we’ve held.

However, for this year the husby wanted an all-out viewing party like the good old days. So, May saw a gaggle of gays at the house watching Sam Ryder do the country proud.

I decided that it would be good to play a drinking game. While I printed the rules out for people to follow along, I agreed to let people know as I would get Twitter notifications from Eurovision Drinking Game.

It all started off well, but it must have become annoying when I was randomly shouting “sip”, “gulp” or “down it”. Turns out people got bored of the game, and in the end, I was the only one that was playing at the end!

It’s fair to say, that a mess, I was!

When we say that Eurovision is like the gay’s World Cup, we aren’t lying.

When it came to the results time, we were glued to the screen and the cheers came from the house every time that the UK was given 12 points. Sorry to my neighbours!

I thought Sam Ryder did us proud, so to come second is a major achievement, especially taken into account the UK’s track record.

For the rest of the party, I decided that I had enough, so took myself to bed!

Gay City Bowlers

Had another great time with the GCB lot. However, this month was a lot better than normal.

There must of been something in the water alcohol cause I played well…for me anyway..

In fact, I actually won a game. And that never happens!

Score board at bowling alley

Granted, come the second game I was back in the position that I am used to…bottom!
