The May “Today is all about” post is a little later than planned, as I had been working on the new look and decided to do a content freeze until the new look was live. So now it’s catch-up time!
Talking Points
Battle Cancer

I have been doing CrossFit for nearly 8 years, and I have never entered any sort of competition.
At first, it just wasn’t something that appealed to me. I do CrossFit for fitness, and not for competitiveness. While in class, I like that we push each other, but I’m not bothered about not coming first! I’m not a fan of people watching me, as I feel judged. Granted, it does push you on to try harder.

However, after completing my first CrossFit Open, I got the bug to try maybe one competition, and I think Battle Cancer was a great stepping stone.
Battle Cancer gave the competition vibes, but without the seriousness and all, for raising money for charity. Yes, there was still a competitive nature about it, but a lot of people were just there for the shits and giggles.
The competition is based on a group of 4, tackling nine stations, where we try and get as much distance or reps as possible. And as a group, we smashed it.
Granted, when I stepped onto the bike at the first station and struggled, I did think “Shit! What have I got myself in for?”. However, after that, it wasn’t too bad.
I had an absolute blast. Would I do it again? Yeah..probably!
Kylie: Tension

It has been a long time coming, but Kylie is back on tour. It was 2018 when Kylie was last on tour, with her Golden album. COVID got in the way of the Disco tour, so we had to wait patiently…but it was worth it!
I’ll be honest, on the run-up to the gig, I was hearing a lot of negative things about the show, which took away some of the excitement.
Firstly, there was the rumoured fallout between Kylie’s management and the creative team (Studio Moross), which led to them pulling out of the tour and taking everything with them. Meaning that there was a total overhaul at the last minute, and the tour looked like it was never related to Tension albums.
People complained that, compared to her previous tours, this felt a little simplistic and done on the cheap. And the merchandise options were minimal. Again, this reinforces the narrative that everything was done at the last minute.
I do think it is fair to say it didn’t start well, but as the tour went on, it improved. By the time it got to Manchester, there was no need to worry, as it was Kylie at her best, and the merchandise options had improved…slightly.
I will say, the pricing was taking the piss a bit. To buy the hoodie at the gig, you would pay £20 more than if you bought it from her website. Tees had a £5 increase. At least they had programmes now, which were beautiful.
I would agree that, compared to some of her earlier tours, the setting was a lot more stripped back, with reliance more on video projection. However, it didn’t affect the show. I had a great time.
I am already looking forward to the next tour.

Jock Night
Jock Night is a comedy about chemsex. It sounds like a bizarre mix, and it shouldn’t work…but it does!
When this was shown previously, I was unable to make it due to other commitments, but I was determined to get tickets for this time. And I am glad that I did.
While the show tackles serious subjects, it does so in a fun and non-judgmental manner. And it’s a laugh-a-minute show.
It’s worth seeing if it ever gets shown again, which I am sure it will.
GCB – I’m a winner, baby!
I have been going to the Gay City Bowlers for around 7 years, and I have never won a medal. I have been close, but always pipped at the post.
After 7 years, I have finally won a medal. Not just any medal, the top spot too! I don’t know how I did it.
I can finally retire, cause I can’t see it happening again anytime soon!
