I am nearly up to date with the blogs, just in time for the end-of-year, where it becomes all busy again. I like the previous months, I will keep November short and sweet.
This month talking points
Gran Canaria
Finally, we have been able to get away for a holiday, taking into account the ‘Rona cancelled last year. To be honest, I actually thought the fate of this year was also going to succumb to the same, but thankfully it didn’t. So I spent a large part of November in the sun and around the pool.
We all knew that this year’s Winterpride would be a lot different to previous ones. Not just for the event itself, but for us in general.
The event
Due to the ongoing covid issue, there was a risk that the event wouldn’t go itself, but thankfully it did, but with a few caveats. The parade was cancelled, and the events were sit down only.
So the main stage was like a mini Manchester Pride, where they blocked off the square/stage area, and you had to pay to gain entry. The numbers were limited too, so while it was never busy in the square area, everyone else was squashed around the sides, which kind of defeated the whole point of why it was happening.
The other dance events also advertised as light versions, which basically meant, you couldn’t dance. It defeated the whole object of the events, so we decided that this year we wouldn’t go to any. News came out that people eventually ignored the rules and were dancing anyway.
The bars around the Yumbo, had strict rules that you needed to be sat down to be served. So you tend to find a seat and stay there for the night.
Taking into account the people to seat ratio, which was as high as G.A.Y. members-only / gain entry policy, we had to play musical chairs between friends so we could all get served with a seat or two between us.
There was also some strange rule (which I still didn’t understand), that when you are inside, you can do what you want. So outside you need to be seated, but inside you can stand shoulder to shoulder!
Our holiday
The plan for this year is to have a more relaxed and chilled holiday. It was probably more relaxed than I was expecting.
As I am not a sun-worshipper, we try and break up the holiday by having a pool day, and then an activities day. Otherwise I get bored.
As there was a load of us on holiday, we tend to follow suit like lemmings jumping off a cliff, which was pool days.
After the 4th pool day, boredom sunk in a bit. Although, I did eventually do some activities including going for a run and doing a workout session in the local gym.
Some of us also went to the beach for the German festival, and the majority of the group also ventured to the waterpark for the day. So some fun times was had.
There was also some small miscommunication between the group, as a few of us would have liked to have ventured out more. It was only on the last day we discussed this as a group and realised a few were in the same boat.
That night!
As well as spending the day around the pool, we also didn’t go out as much. In fact, for the first part of the holiday, we were home before midnight. One was not amused!
However, one night I was allowed off my reins and got to play out later than everyone else. So I stayed out with a group of friends. Unfortunately, the Spanish measures got to me, and my social awareness was non-existent.
In return for not being aware, this was taken advantage of, and my phone was pick-pocketed from me. After I realised what had happened, I was more relieved that I still had my wallet. I couldn’t believe how blasé I was about it.
The next day, I had to break the news to the husby at how much of a dick I was. The conversation started with “Don’t shout at me, but…”
We did try and locate the phone, but alas no luck. I was able to set up a lost phone, so if it was turned on it would ping and let them know. In the vain hope, it would be returned to me. It wasn’t until I got home, that I realised that the phone had been turned on and was now in Barcelona! So that wasn’t going to get back to me.
Booster
While on holiday we got notified that we were eligible for our covid boosters. So we booked ourselves in for a few days after we got back.
However, as we were coming home a few of us started to feel crap. Now pre-‘Rona, we would just put this down to Yumbola, however, you can’t just take that risk anymore.
After several LFT tests, it was confirmed…it was Yumbola and not Covid. I know a few peeps that were on holiday weren’t as lucky.
So thankfully, we could still go and get our booster to help reduce the risk of contracting the Omricon variant. Again, like the previous jabs, I experienced little or no side effects. Apart from a sore arm for a few hours.
However, I have noticed that we now have 5G at our house now. Coincidence? I don’t think so!
