I shall be honest, I have been suffering a severe case of cba with the website at the moment. So again, the October post is late!
Granted everything, apart from the intro, was already written. It’s everything else that I need to do as part of the the post.
Anygays, here you go…
Fifty before 50
Fifty before 50
Before old age creeps up on me and slaps me across the face, I thought I would create a bucket of thing to do. Fifty before 50 is that list!
Talking Points
Nina Gilligan
A group of us descended to Frog & Bucket Comedy Club to see Nina Gilligan.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know who she was, but I also don’t know many other comics either. A friend rated her, and showed me some clips which made me chuckle.
So, why not?
Nina is a basic down-to-earth woman, who just knows how to capture an audience with her comedic anecdotes.
From #OneOfTheGays it was great to leave some impression on Nina too.
Trist me, you don’t want to miss Nina if she is ever near you.
Toxic
After seeing Cruise at Home Manchester, I went to have a gander at what else was coming up at the venue.
I bought tickets for two other productions, and Toxic was one of them.
The story is about a queer couple who met, fell in love, and fucked it up!
Based in Manchester in 2017, one was ashamed of their HIV status, while the other was dealing with their inner demons.
The show was performed in Home’s smaller theatre which added to the intimacy of the play. Taking into account the sexual scenes, as well as the violent ones, it just made those emotions hyphened.
Setting
The stage was a room that was stark and run down. It felt industrial, which could be a nod to the warehouse party and how the reationship was.
Near the end of the performance, the room split in two, symbolisingthe end of the relationship.
I also noted there was use of colours between the characters.
The playwrites colour was pink, while the performer was yellow.Whether it to be their phones, clothes or hair, thedy were all the same colour.
I feel that there was an important message to this, but it’s gone over my head!
Overall
The forth wall was definitely broken, as we the audience were constantly brought into the foldand told us what was happening.
It was a mixture of xdrama, perfoamtic, dance and storytelling.
You were transcended into snippets of the couples relationship – the good and bad!
It’s definitely worth a watch if you ever get the opportunity.
