I have been having a severe case of CBA at the moment, and not just with the posts. As much as I have had shite to say in September, the mojo to sit down and write has been non-existant.
So expect this to be a streamlined version. Think of it like the good old days.
This month talking points
Theatre Darhlings
I’ve said this many times before, but I prefer the theatre to the cinema. So it was great to get back into one for the first time since lockdown.
I’ve been wanting to go see Everybody’s Talking About Jamie for a while, so when it went on tour we jumped at the chance to go.
So a gaggle of gays headed to the theatre for some really camp fun.
I really enjoyed the show, with the mother (Amy Ellen Richardson) and Priti the best friend (Sharan Pull) stealing the show vocally.
Shabna Gulati, which played family friend Ray, was the stand out comical character.
I will say that I was a little disappointed with Leyton Williams who played Jamie. I felt that his voice was lost in some of the songs. Don’t get me wrong, he can sing just wasn’t powerful enough.
As much as I enjoyed the stage show, I couldn’t wait to watch the film version that was also released in September.
What I’d say about the film is that I enjoyed watching it, and I would watch it again, but it wasn’t on par to the theatre version.
I just felt that there was something missing, or not captured, that was in the theatre version.
So if you love the film, and you haven’t seen the theatre version yet…go as it better!
Out out
September would be nearly a year since I went out, but it would be around 18 months since I have been out out!
When the second lockdown happened, it hit me differently and my anxiety just grew. This is something that I have spoken about previously.
So instead of venturing out, I have spent more time socialising in smaller groups at home.
But September, I took the plunge and I went ‘out out’, and I had a great time. I saw so many faces that I haven’t seen since lockdown 1 was introduced.
I went along to one of my old regular club nights, Qwerk. Because it such a friendly crowd and isn’t over-crowded.
While I had a great time and I will venture ‘out out’ again, although to be honest, I’m in no rush.
Gay City Bowlers
Another step into normality was returning to GCB after nearly 2 years away!
During the lockdown, the organisers were doing Zoom quizzes (like everybody else). In return, going back appears to have seen the group members grow. Which is fantastic.
Held the last Wednesday of every month, the group descends on Lane 7. After everyone has thrown their balls around, we then venture to Via, where food is eaten and more alcohol is drunk.
I do love these social events and the people who go, even though I am crap at bowling!
