When I turned 25, I went through a quarter life crisis. I felt like I had done nothing with my life. Now, as fifty years on the planet are fast approaching, I feel like I have done and experienced a lot. But is that enough?
As that milestone creeps closer, I wanted to create a bucket list of things I would like to do or achieve before I reach it. So I came up with the idea of a ‘Fifty before 50’ bucket list.
I have to be realistic with the list as well. Unless I win the lottery or get a sugar daddy, there are plenty of things I just would not be able to manage before my fiftieth. So there are a few simple and quick items included too.
This is something I have been working on for a while, but I have been struggling to think of fifty things I want to tick off. Have I really got no ambition? Or have I already achieved more than I thought?
As you can see, I am still missing a few things I would like to do before the big 5-0. So if you have any ideas I could try, please let me know.
Bucket List
The closest I have come to riding a horse is a donkey on Blackpool beach when I was about 10/11.
Who doesn’t want to spend a weekend in Amsterdam and visit the sex museum and look at a wall of cocks?
The British Isles have many beautiful places to visit, and some of them are in Ireland
It’s the only country I haven’t visited in the United Kingdom. This has to change.
Uncle Gert refused to take me in 1999. Not that I hold grudges or anything, but I haven’t forgiven Uncle Gert for that!
But this is something that I still want to do.
I don’t know why I have never attempted to ski before. I don’t necessarily want to go on a skiing holiday. Just give it a try.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t touched a sewing machine since high school. So this should be fun!
As lovers of the Great Pottery Throwdown, watching them do that makes it look so easy.
So why not?
I have a huge phobia of signing in public.
At the age of 12, in front of a packed-out school assembly, I forgot the words to Oliver’s “Who will buy?”
Plus, I am constantly told I can’t sing!
One of the biggest regrets of my life.
This is what I wanted to do as a career when I was younger. But alas, it never got past college years!
I would love to perform again. But do I still have it in me?
Having spent years visiting the Gay Mecca (aka IKEA), it’s time to try something different.
Let’s try some upcycling!
I’ve done a bungee jump, this is kinda the same. Except a lot higher…and a parachute instead of a rope!
So nothing like the same!
When I was 11, the school said that I couldn’t do gymnastics as “that’s a girl’s sport”
In the process, I have never been able to backflip.
There is something about dangling off the side of something, supported by a piece of rope, to give you the heebie jeebies!
I have been working on my sleeve since I was about 20. I may as well get it finished before I turn fifty!
I’ve been bald since my 20s, so I have always been curious to see what I would look like if I had a head of hair!
I would rather visit Canada than America.
Additionally, we both have family in Canada, so we would like to visit them there.
In the whole time that I went to school, I got to have a go at tennis once.
I then “played” a couple of times later with friends, but I feel like I need to have a proper game.
As a kid, I had a fascination with dolphins. I even adopted one for several years.
Part of me would love to swim with dolphins; however, I would be more than happy to see them in the wild.
What’s this? A Christmas-themed item!
This isn’t something I came up with, but it is something that I have thought about doing.
I’m told I’m full of air a lot, but not enough to lift me to the sky.
I’ve always fancied going on a cruise, alas, the husby doesn’t.
Where is that sugar daddy?
I’ll be honest, my dress sense is casual, so I blend into the back.
Am I too old to stand out?
I need to have some Cornish ice cream on the beach
I really am not an artistic person, but I have always wanted to create a piece of art (of some sort).
Just don’t expect a masterpiece
Upcycling a piece of furniture is one thing, but can I create one
As a Scot who moved to England as a kid, I have never experienced a proper Scottish Hogmanay.
It’s a sport that I have never really thought about because I don’t have good grip strength.
I would be happy with indoor rock climbing
For a few years now, I have been wanting to create a professional website using the Headless approach. It has never happened!
15-year-old Mike had the opportunity to climb the tower. 15-year-old Mike declined.
Older Mike now regrets that decision.
I like to think I have aged gracefully (or disgracefully, depending on who you speak to), but age is upon me now, and I am looking a little haggard.
So, I want to see what a little pick-me-up would do/feel
I think there is something special about the canal boat homes and the ability to travel the country by canal.
I don’t want to own a gun (even if I could), but I would be interested in going to a shooting range and learning how to shoot one.
Ice baths are designed to enhance circulation, promote muscle recovery, alleviate pain, and improve mental well-being.
I, on the other hand, think they are designed to make your balls go deep inside you!
I am always being told to “stop monkeying around”, but I don’t want to. Doing Go Ape looks like it would be fun.
This is another skill I would like to achieve. I want to hold a freestanding handstand for a period, and I also want to be able to do a controlled handstand walk.
Achieved
I used to raise money all the time, but there is only so much sponsorship shit you can do.
Over the next few years, I plan to raise some money for charity
I have haphazardly been trying to learn Spanish over the years. It would be good to have a little conversation in another language
I was learning Spanish through Duolingo
After months of practice, I finally did it. I got that elusive bar muscle-up.
For my mum’s birthday, I bought her a helicopter ride. I got one for myself, too.
After nearly 8 years of doing CrossFit, I finally plucked up the courage and competed in a fitness competition. Granted, I didn’t do it to win!
NC500 is Scotland’s version of Route 66. As a Scot, I wanted to see more of my country, and this is a great way of doing it.
As a kid, I used to “knit”, if you called it that. And after a few years of cross-stitching, I set my sights on learning crochet.
I can do it. Although I am not sure I want to continue with this as a hobby
It has taken nearly 7 years, but I have finally competed in my first CrossFit Open
Climbing a hill is nothing. We need to go higher. So a mountain it is then!
